St Jude Marathon

Well after much anticipation, my first half marathon 5 1/2 months post baby is finished! I honestly wasn't ready for this race and it showed but I crossed the finish line with a record slow race for me at 2:23.

I am just so glad it is over and now I have my sights set on NOLA with a time BELOW 2:15...RUNNERS...I'LL SEE YOU IN NEW ORLEANS!!!
Sara, my running buddy in NOLA...if I can keep up with her!
And of course, a huge THANK YOU to my amazing husband for taking care of Riley during training and the race! I know it was hard for you to sit on the sidelines and watch. I love you very much and am so blessed to have you in my life!
My sweet angel made it though yet another race! She's going to be a PRO!

7 miles + a bathroom break

Well as I was laying on the couch eating yet another snickers, yes I raided the Halloween candy AGAIN, I decided it was time to get off my tail and go for a run. 7 miles was on my plan and I will have to admit I was dreading it! This running thing post baby has been hard for me. I'm not used to struggling just when I run 3 miles. I can't even tell you the last time I was unable to do a 5k with out stopping and truly it makes me feel like a total fat kid up the street! Note to self: NEVER make fun of all the fat people out there running because you now are one :-)
But anyway I got up and did it! It felt great!!! I took a hammer gel before I left and then again at about 3.5 miles and I just have to brag while still on my runners high...I NEVER STOPPED!!! the whole 7 miles I NEVER STOPPED!!! Total time 1:13...slow...but it's done...all done!! WhooooHooooo What an accomplishment for me! But one thing that did happen was an unexpected potty break! Whoops! Yup totally peed on myself! But at least I had on black half tights so no one knew except me and now all of you! But hey...don't pro athletes pee on themselves too??? Of course theirs is for their pr and mine was because I had a baby and obviously need to do some kegels!!

Happy running day to all you Runners! Its a beautiful day!

Confessions of a recovering runner

So this has been a longer road than I ever thought it would be. I don't know why I thought I would just be able to get out and run like I used to right afar having a baby, but I am determined!! I am doing better but so much slower than I used to be and if you are a runner, then you know how hard that is to accept.

St Jude is just over 1 month away and my longest run has only been 5 miles! WHOA! That's some slack training huh? But I wrote myself a training program the other day and I know I can do this! So here's to getting back into my running groove!! Ill be back and then comes New Orleans!!

Each and every run consists of me verbally saying "I can do this" and I CAN!! I know I CAN!!! Ill see all you runners out there soon, maybe a little slower than what I'm used to but Ill be there which is more than I can say for all those people sitting on their couches...

"PBGA"

Post Baby Goal Achievement!!

Yup my goal was to do 3 miles by the end of the week and be happy with my performance and that I am! I just wanted to accomplish 3 miles today and I happened to throw in a few surprises for myself this morning. I'm not really sure why, but I did!

So I got up this morning and took little bit to school, laced up my shoes and off I went. What I didn't realize was that there were 18 mph winds that I would be facing the entire way back...the run out was great because I had a little friend, named the WIND, pushing me right along down the river. Then around the roundabout and yup over the bridge! Whoop whoop! I had forgotten how hard that bad boy was until I got to the railroad tracks and then it hit me...I have to run back over it to get home! LOL!! I didn't think that one though, I just got a little too excited! So off I went. After battling the brutal winds I made it back! 3.1 miles in 30:24...a tad slow for my taste but hey this is only my 2nd week of running in a year so I'll take it! Baby steps right??

St Jude here I come, but hopefully with a little less fat!

Running off the baby fat

Well it's been one week since I have been out on my second attempt to start running off this baby fat again! Let's see attempt one was a complete FAIL considering a peed on myself while running but this second attempt has been much much better!!
It's hard getting back out there and realizing that things jiggle now that never used to! Plus it's hard to accept that your "I am a runner" statement is no longer the truth! Now I am a runner in recovery. It's hard to realize and accept that you can't bounce back that quickly. It's going to take a lot of hard work and dedication but thankfully I have an amazingly supportive husband who walks Riley while I attempt to run.
I know now for me to be ready to run St Jude, I just have to focus and not loose sight of the end goal: 13.1 miles in 2:25...I know that doesn't seem like a great goal but I'm 3 months post baby and running 2.5 miles at a 10 min mile pace! Whew...that's like turtle pace!! But I will get there!
The ULTIMATE goal is to  beat my PR at the New Orleans Half. Its a flat course and its 5 months away! Bring it New Orleans! I'm ready to show you what this mama is made of, minus a little fat and cellulite!
Time to play the mental battle of running distance and knock this training out!
